Fergie: Attracted Success While Still Young
Stacy Ann Ferguson has decided to launch her solo album, The Dutchess (it is deliberately spelled that way and is not a mis-spell) but that doesn’t mean she has left the Black Eyed Peas. She said she’d like to remain with them as vocalist for the group. Her professional name is Fergie and was known to her fans the instant she became Sally Brown in the Charlie Brown Specials.
Fergie was born in California on March 27, 1975 and is an American Grammy awardee for the pop and R&B category. She started, however, as a child actress on the show Kids Incorporated and has a sister, Dana, who is also an actress. She became a member of the Wild Orchid Group and they released two albums, both of which did not make it. They attempted a third album but the company did not want to release it. This caused Fergie’s life to come “tumbling down” and she turned to ecstasy and crystal methamphetamine, losing considerable weight but telling friends she was bulimic.
It was in 2003 that she was offered the female lead singer position for the Black Eyed Peas and recorded five songs with them before they invited her to join on a permanent basis. The public started to take notice of her. She was cast in the film Poseidon in 2006.
Fergie told Time Magazine last month that she was seriously thinking of putting an end to her drug addiction, explaining that this problem can be attributed to her days as a child actress. She is currently dating Jerod Turner who appears on the TV show Las Vegas.
“The Dutchess” is Fergie’s first studio album and generated sales of 332,032 in the US and 655,000 worldwide. Her other songs include “London Bridge”, “Fergalicious” and others. She was nominated several times and won several of these nominations, including: “Let’s Get it Started” (2005 Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group), “Don’t Phunk With My Heart” (2006 Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group) and 2005 Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Band/Duo/Group. In 2003, she also won the Digital Track of the Year for “Where is the Love” and 2004 Best Choreography for “Hey Mama.”
As for Fergie’s filmography, she appeared in “Be Cool”, “Poseidon” and “Grind House”; this third film for release in 2007.
